Big Ideas - Using Crosscutting Concepts in K-6 Earth Science Education
Alexandra Winkel, 5th Grade Teacher, Lewis E. Rowe Elementary School
Crosscutting Concepts are the NGSS ‘big' ideas that are believed to help students develop a better understanding of core principles in science and engineering. These concepts have recently been incorporated into the new NVACS for Science. Earth science education has some big ideas too. These include the 9 Big Ideas in Earth Science, created by the Earth Science Literacy Initiative. In this session, you will learn some great earth science activities inspired by these ideas that are endorsed by the American Geosciences Institute. You will also learn how classroom activities like these can help you meet the Crosscutting Concepts standards incorporated into the NVACS for Science.
